Hello and welcome to Sportstar’s HIGHLIGHTS of the IPL 2022 match between Mumbai Indians and Gujarat Titans from the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
MUMBAI INDIANS BEAT GUJARAT TITANS BY FIVE RUNS
What a stunning final over from Daniel Sams. With nine runs needed off the final over, he conceded just three runs and pulled off an incredible five-run win for Mumbai Indians over Gujarat Titans. An unlikely win considering the teams’ positions on the points table and the fact that Gujarat Titans was well on its way to a breezy win after a 106-run opening stand between Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha in pursuit of 177 for eight. Both openers, however, fell in the same over after notching up their respective half-centuries. Hardik Pandya and Sai Sudharsan also fell in quick succession but with the likes of David Miller, Rahul Tewatia and Rashid Khan to come, a Titans win seemed always likely.
Earlier, Tim David resurrected Mumbai Indians’ innings with an unbeaten 21-ball 44 to ensured the team ended with a respectable 177 for six. Openers Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan powered Mumbai to its best PowerPlay score this season and stitched a 74-run stand in just 7.3 overs. However, the lack of meaningful contributions by the middle-order threatened to undo the good work done by the opening pair as Mumbai lost three wickets for 20 runs.

19:21 IST: A lot of Mumbai Indians’ troubles have stemmed from the lack of a stable opening partnership and today the openers will have their task cut out against a potent Gujarat Titans attack – which has the second lowest economy rate in PowerPlay overs of 7.28 and has claimed the most wickets – 21.

IPL 2022 AT BRABOURNE STADIUM (LAST FIVE MATCHES)
Delhi Capitals beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by 21 runs
Gujarat Titans beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets
Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by nine wickets
Delhi Capitals beat Punjab Kings by nine wickets
Rajasthan Royals beat Kolkata Knight Riders by seven runs
In this game of glorious uncertainties, one of the few certainties of the season has been the underwhelming show by Mumbai Indians.
The win against Rajasthan Royals at Navi Mumbai ended what had seemed a never-ending run of losses but may have come too late. It would have helped Rohit Sharma’s men regain some of their self-belief. They will need plenty of that when they take on Gujarat Titans at the Brabourne Stadium here on Friday in the clash between the IPL’s table-topper and the basement-dweller.
Titans, a side that has thus far lived up to its name, is closer to the playoffs than anybody else, having lost just two of its 10 games.
Ironically, it is a former MI star that played the key role in its superb campaign. Hardik Pandya, who had been with the five-time champion since 2015 before being released ahead of the mega auction, has led from the front.
He is the team’s leading run-scorer with 309 runs. Shubman Gill and David Miller, too, are in good nick. If the top-order doesn’t click, there is Rahul Tewatia to whack those sixes.
GT has also been served well by its strong bowling attack featuring Mohammed Shami, Lockie Ferguson and Rashid Khan.
As for MI, it will be hoping that Rohit is among runs again. His return to form would ease the pressure on Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma. The team also needs the bowlers to continue from where they left off at Navi Mumbai.
