Stefany Mayz can now be added to your playlist full of doleful songs along with “drivers license”, “Be Alright”, and Maroon 5’s “Memories”. Mayz taps into those deep notes we all feel every now and then with her newly remastered song “Change” releasing on Friday, June 24th. Wistful and nostalgic, “Change” is exactly what you’d expect from an indie pop-ballad, delivering all the feels.
For Mayz, personally, “Change” is the culmination of anger, fear, and frustrations she experienced during a period of near-homelessness in late 2019. She recounts the feeling of “letting go” and not knowing what’s to come next in her lyrics.
“I used to have the need to know, but what’s to know when you let go” Stefany Mayz “Change”
In 2019 Stefany was beginning to learn how to produce her own music. Mayz initially began producing this track on her iPhone’s GarageBand app using in-app synths, beats, and loops to lay down her early ideas. She then later sent it to producer Stefan Litrownik (who has worked with Andy grammar and one direction to name a few) to polish it off.
“Change” is releasing right on the heels of an intense few weeks for Mayz. She recently initiated the organization of one of the hundreds of March For Our Lives protests around the country. Hers took place in Ocean City, NJ. Within only two weeks she set up a march in which hundreds of people showed up in solidarity on June 11th!
“My heart was ripped to shreds when Uvalde happened,” explained Stefany Mayz, an Egg Harbor Township mother of two, who organized the Ocean City event“
-Karen Knight, Cape May County Herald
“Mayz stepped up to the podium and said this, “We are here today to send a message that we are not waiting any longer. We are here today to demand that our children go to school and come home again.”
-Maddy Vitale, OCNJ Daily
Mayz is no stranger to activism. In fact, she typically hybrids her social movements with her music. Her previously released tracks “Terror Attack” and “We Will Not Be shamed”, both which speak out against Gun violence and Victim shaming respectively.
“Change” is an all-too-familiar reality for us all. It’s a must-hear track that’s sure to resonate with your very soul.
“Change [Remastered]” is available on all platforms Friday, June 24th, 2022
